Maintenance EZezine

Is it Possible to Teach an Old Body New Tricks?

I have compared your legs to the suspension system of a car before, because soft knees absorb the bumps. Are you taking care of yourself as well as you take care of your car? My car has a little light that comes on when it is time for maintenance. That is smart on the part of the car manufacturer; a well-maintained car will have fewer problems and will make them look good. Some potential problems can be caught before breakdown occurs.

The clients that wait until they are in pain to come in for a Trager® session don't realize how much they could learn with a maintenance appointment. Playing with different movement suggestions will keep you more aware of what is going on with your body, possibly avoiding the painful stage.

I started out very slowly 12 years ago. It took me a long time to make major shifts in the way I could move because I didn't have sessions close together. I was persistent, however. I would say I am 100% different now. A friend told me I was 300% different. I now move better than I did when I was 20 years old. How old will you be in 12 years? How will you move then?

You have the opportunity to improve the body you'll have for the rest of your life with very little time commitment. Are you taking advantage of it?

Maintenance Check.

Do you know if your body is getting low on oil? (That fluid feeling you get with a Trager session.) Check the movement of your joints, adding oil as needed. In other words, lubricate all joints with gentle movement.

Stand up and take a breath. Start with feeling your feet, wiggle your toes and rock slightly from toes to heels. Make small circular moves with your ankles, knees, hips and waist, moving one joint at a time. Inhale deeply to move your ribs out and in. Turn your head slightly to one side and nod yes. Turn the opposite direction, and nod. Move only your shoulders, like you were floating in the water doing the backstroke. Let your arms dangle at your side and shake them gently.

Simple movements can make a profound difference, especially when repeated throughout the day. Make a commitment to improving your body and call for a maintenance appointment.
